Good news, water levels are normal to high this year for all events. The St Marys River in Sault Ste Marie is down a bit but no issues. I was on the Magpie River(site of the Dubreuilville Father’s Day Tournament) this past weekend and I can report that the water levels are normal to high this year. This means a bigger area to fish and less to worry about when it comes to hitting obstructions. I did catch some nice fish but really had to find them and work hard. This was the report from most people that fished the river. More water means more places to hide. Water temperature was about 53-55 degrees. I am also hearing reports that Mattagami and Geraldton are normal to high this year as well. June will be a great start to the NOWT season.
Also fished the St Marys River this weekend and I am happy to report that I was able to catch a 6 & 4 lb walleye. Water temperature in the River right now is 46 degrees. Fishing should be good in July for the inaugural KIWT tournament. We are expecting big fish to appear on the main stage for the weigh ins. This is going to be a great family event for all. Sign up now, go to www.kiwt.net to register. Anyone can register for this event. Email us if you want more details kiwtssm@gmail.com. You might even see yourseld on TSN or WFN as Canadian Sportfishing will be filming the event.
New prizes will be added to each tournament this year from new sponsors. Princecraft is providing a 12 ft boat for each tournament. This year is going to be a great year. The NOWT is going through some big changes this year that will allow for continued growth into the 2012 season. Our focus will be about growing tourism in each tournament city. We are not for profit and a group of individuals volunteering our time to make this trail exciting for all. Supporting the NOWT means you are supporting the thing you love, fishing and your community! We want to highlight each community and the unique experience it brings to Northern Ontario.
Tell everyone you know about the NOWT and the tournaments sanctioned by this great Trail. Don’t miss out on the fun this summer. please post some comments.
Great news for Mattagami tourney, water levels are at normal/ slightly high ,however
there was lots of debris and logs floating about . So be safe out there and keep an eye out.. Temps should be between 18 to 22 degrees (a nice change ) but forcasts are changing daily as far as rain/sun (as usual).
See you there,
