Danny Hein and DJ Germain were able to put 2 big fish in the boat with some kickers on Day 1 that put them out front to stay and clinch victory. This is their first win of the season on the NOWT. It was a tough bite for most and it really showed on Day 2 for the leaders. Hein & Germain won with 24.69 lbs & cashed a $8000 cheque.
The weather was warmer than usual and the fish were really deep. Skies were clear both days and the wind wasn’t really a factor. Not ideal conditions for walleye fishing and a real grind out there for all to secure their 6 fish limit each day. The Cache Campground hosted a great event for all and many anglers are already thinking about next year.
Rounding out the top 3 and no strangers to the NOWT were JC Cayen & John Vrolyk with 22.22 lbs and Jeff Vipond & John Labine with 21.99 lbs. Big fish on day 1 went to JC Cayen and John Vrolyk with a 12.69 lb hog. Day 2 big fish went to James Lund and Don White with a 6.63 lb walleye.
Next stop on the NOWT is the Sagamok Fall Walleye Classic hosted by the Sagamok First Nations Community on Sept 24th & 25th. This is a great event and will cap off another great season on the 2011 NOWT.
