With water levels up on the Magpie River from last year, fish seemed to be a little more spreadout. Many big fish were still caught and the reported weights of fish prove once again that the Magpie River produces some big fish. Dubreuilville did a fantastic job hosting this great event and many anglers went home with the tought of next year. This event continues to grow and the support is top notch. If you have never fished this event, plan for it next year.
Leading the way and crowned Magpie River Champs for 2011 were Jean and Sylvain Mercier. They managed two consistent days of solid weight backed by a 9+ lb walleye on day 2 to collect their $5000 cheque. Winding up in second spot with 29+ lbs was the husband & wife team of Mark and Renee Lythman. They managed two big fish on Day 2 that really moved them up the leaderboard. Third spot went to Jeffrey Smith and Rudy Vorlicek with 27+ lbs.
Weather was good all weekend and Dubreuilville is a great place to visit with lots of great fishing opportunities. Next on the schedule is the Geraldton Walleye Classic.
