Mattagami First Nation hosted their second NOWT tournament of the season this past weekend.  Anglers continue to compete for Angler of the Year points to secure one of the top 25 spots reserved for the NOWT Championship being held in Geraldton June 2019.

Fog delayed both days of the event, with an extension provided on Saturday, but a shortened fishing day on Sunday. The pressure was certainly on day 1 leaders as the day 2 weights indicated an overall tough fishing day, even for many of the seasoned circuit anglers.

Day 1 ended with impressive weighs leading the top 3:

  1. Jamie Robinson and Terry Bernath – 19.14 lbs
  2. Jody Villeneuve and Chad Vis – 17.09 lbs
  3. Sebastien Lizotte and Jeff Vipond – 15.06 lbs

Day 2 saw a change in the top 3 as the day’s weights indicated a challenging day for many:

  1. Derick Brooks and Guy Laberge – 14.35 lbs
  2. Dean Bliss and Keith Hryciw – 14.09 lbs
  3. Dennis Perrier and Matt Guacci – 12.77 lbs

With the total weights added up, the team of Jody Villeneuve and Chad Vis took home the newly crafted NOWT Fall Walleye Tournament  trophy and the cash prize of $8000!  Congratulations!

The top 15 finishers are as follows:

  1. Jody Villeneuve & Chad Vis
