A busy June for the Northern Ontario Walleye Trail wrapped up in Geraldton at the 2018 Geraldton Walleye Classic. The organizers of the third tournament of the circuit did not hold back, demonstrating their ability to host a national-level walleye tournament. Geraldton will host the 2019 NOWT Championship Tournament where the top 25 teams in 2018 will compete for the grand prize of a Princecraft Hudson DLX, Mercury 150 FourStroke, and trailer package worth over $55,000.
The event kicked off with the parade of boats Friday evening. Anglers and their polished boats traveled down Main Street Geraldton where he community showed their support for the anglers and event.
Anglers gathered on Kenogamisis Lake on an overcast Saturday morning awaiting the horn to start the tournament. Throughout the day anglers checked in with their large fish. By the end of the day the leaders were established with many within striking distance for a win or top payout position. Less than a pound separated first and fifth positions.
